Do you have a favorite Halloween Memory? I have two. Turns out that tricks can eventually become amazing treats and memories that last a lifetime.
Budweiser Girl Dad
Before you read this, you may want to reference this YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEa42JqBbnM
In 1993, Budweiser came out with a commercial of a group of men dressed as women on "ladies night" at the bar. I was in 5th grade and unaware that my Dad planned to dress up as one of these Budweiser girls with his buddy at work.
My Mom dressed him to the nines with a fancy purple dress, purple pumps, a blonde wig, gloves and pearl accessories.
Before he rushed off to work, he decided to make a quick stop across the street to visit me in my 5th grade classroom. He went down to the office and they called my teacher through the intercom, "Miss Lim, we have a visitor for you." "Bring them down," my teacher said. Things were definitely different then, can you imagine that being allowed today? I also do not think this commercial would fly today either.
He walked in, said hello to my class and introduced himself as Cady's Dad. I swiftly crawled under my desk. My cheeks were on fire and the whole class was laughing.
When I got home that night, I let him have it just a little. Looking back, it's one of my favorite stories to share about my Dad.
Scarecrow Comes to Life
My second favorite Halloween memory also involves my Dad. My Mom would always decorate our home for Halloween and our friends would come over and take family photos before we headed out to trick-or-treat in our neighborhood.
One of her famous decorations was always a scarecrow. Not one you purchase at a store, she went all out! She would grab my Dad's clothes and a pumpkin head, stuff it and pose it nicely on a bench on our porch. Can you tell where this is going yet?
My Dad was working late, and we were out trick-or-treating. It got dark, and he decided to take the scarecrow in and put his clothes on. Then he went out and sat on the porch fully dressed in what the scarecrow was wearing before we left the house.
When we got back, the scarecrow was moving! We were all shocked, including my Mom. It took a bit of time for us to realize it was my Dad. Great trick, right? Feel free to use this idea and let me know how it goes.
